• SOTA?

From Andyzot@VERT/ABBBS to All on Fri Jul 29 16:00:25 2022
    Hi all,
Anyone here do SOTA? Chaser or activator? What are your experiences?
I'm new to it, recently acquired an FT-817nd, built a linked dipole and put together a go-bag, set off on my first activation yesterday...as unfit as I am, I staggered up my nearest summit, set up my kit, erected the antenna, settled down to do some Tx, and that's when I realised I'd forgotten my mic!
First SOTA fail! But, I'm not deterred, I'm heading up again tomorrow, Saturday 30th July, to GW/SW-030, it's nothing special, but hopefully I'll no longer be a SOTA virgin!
I'm hoping to start Tx at around 1400 UTC, on 40m, 20m and 2m, primarily SSB, so if you're into SOTA, hope to catch ya on the air!

Never done SOTA, but it's been on my todo list for some time. Fitness is definitely not an issue with me - in fact it's the time spent training or competing that's one of my barriers - it's time and money for the travel. But SOTA does look like a lot of fun. One day I hope to get out with a local club for some SOTA.

... How would someone else do it?

I'll have a listen on 40m and 20m and see if I can hear you. Are you going to post your frequency on the SOTA site?

I am curious too. I've been mainly doing POTA but would love to dive into SOTA one of these days. I live in a state with tons of mountains -- Colorado, so you'd think I'd do it more. I tried to setup a station at Mount Evan's a few weeks ago but ran into one issue after another, so I had to abort. I may try again here soon.
